Train

This service is available using Tanzania Railway Authority (TAZATA). TAZARA is an integral part of the southern Africa Regional Rail Transport Network. It is a rail link of approximately 1,860 km. long rising at sea level from the East African port of Dar es Salaam and highlands (Mbeya city) in Tanzania, to New Kapiri Mposhi at 1400m above sea level in the Central African country of Zambia.

TAZARA runs trains between Kapiri Mposhi, Mbeya and Dar es Salaam, taking two nights.  The trains have sleeping-cars and a restaurant car, and the journey is a great adventure.  The line was opened in 1976, built with Chinese funding and assistance.

The times shown here reflect the new timetable introduced on 10 October 2008.
